Whose Hands Has Our £6bn Worth of Equipment Fallen Into?

07,Jul,2011

The shocking news a few days ago that the Ministry of Defence is unable to account for £6bn worth of spending and items is quite frankly, embarrassing, disgraceful, and in terms of the public sector, alarmingly normal.

What is most worrying, is not just the £6bn figure, but the fact the Ministry of Defence, which is responsible for the protection of the United Kingdom has effectively ‘lost’ £6bn worth of items.

The most worry issue that comes from this is that we are constantly being told of the dangers of weapons, mainly nuclear, getting in the hands of terrorists.  We know a thousand or so radios have gone missing, but what else?  And who’s hands are they in?  If this carries on, how long will it before equipment is lost and falls into the hands of those with sinister intentions.

One may say this is a slightly exaggerated view to take, but military equipment going missing needs to be taken seriously.
